We might be played by the title but ‘Karera’ is a song about taking things slow… one day at a time. After the success of the song “Tahanan,” comes a different sound from singer/songwriter TJ Monterde. The highly-anticipated “Karera” leans towards a mid-tempo range and lyrics as described by TJ himself, is about not rushing on our decisions, trusting the process, and valuing the journey with the people around you– that life isn’t a race after all.

TJ’s new single under PolyEast Records dropped on Friday, July 12 and garnered the top of Twitter trends with #TJMonterdeKarera. TJ said he was inspired by the encouragements he get from his girlfriend, KZ Tandingan, every time people would pressure him about getting married or every time he reflects about the things he should achieve in life. “KZ would always tell me, in Bisaya, “Dili nilumbahanay…” (‘di naman ito karera), so I realize… oo nga, hindi naman ito karera. You don’t have to push yourself too hard,” TJ shared.

TJ is known for his trademark of hugot song lines by his legion of supporters and is not far different from us. We tend to be pressured on things we need to achieve; we always give ourselves deadline but as what TJ says about his new song “Karera:” ‘Wag tayo mag madali, ’di naman ito Karera’.
