Bamboo Mañalac’s Solo Album out Nov.20!

Monday, November 14th, 2011

“No Water, No Moon,” the new album from Bamboo Mañalac

to be released in the market on Sunday, November 20th under Polyeast Records

Good music never ends and one great artist never stops. Just one spin of the most anticipated album in OPM rock this year, “No  Water, No Moon,” Bamboo Mañalac’s first solo release under PolyEast Records, and it’s clear there is life beyond his career as frontman. “Nothing’s changed. It’s the same pressure that I’ve always put on myself. Whether in a band or going out on my own, or whatever I do. Just wanting to push, claw and climb,” Mañalac said in an interview.

Manalac’s debut album will be released in the market on 20 November by Polyeast Records. Produced and compositions by Mañalac himself, the album preceded by the lead single “Questions” which debuted the radio stations nationwide last Sept. 22 accompanied by a music video co-direction with Treb Monteras III.

“Questions” however gave us a glimpse of the polished-pop direction Mañalac’s music is heading– towards on-trend synth chord progressions with cascading backup strings. “Questions” according to Mañalac, “I felt this was a good intro to the album because it has a lot of colors and instrumentation that we have in the album in just one song. The song is personal but I thought it spoke of human experience.

Mañalac continued sharing his thoughts about the album title, “It’s a Japanese Koan. Something I’ve read from time to time over the years. I never thought of it as a album title but when it came down to choosing one and basing it on the general tone and sound of the album and what the koan meant for me. It just fit with the album’s concept”

The release includes such songs as “In Shadow”, “Please”, “Morning Rose”, “Back on my Feet”, “Spin”, “In This Life”, “Down the Line”, “All Hail the Fool”, “The Only Way”, “Just Go”  and a bonus track and only  Tagalog song in the album “Ikot ng Mundo.”

“The songs just draw from my own personal church of music. The stuff I sit around listening to. So I see this album as homage to my favourites. The idea was to still continue doing what I

enjoyed when I was with a band. Some songs have an element of hearing it again for the first time because of what the other players brought to the pot”.

Paving his own name from a band’s frontman to a solo act, is no easy feat. That did not stop Mañalac’s ambitious resolve to conjure up a new and eclectic set. Teamed with some of the top musicians in the music industry like Ria Osorio, Kakoy Legaspi, Jun Jun Regalado, Bong Gonzales and Simon Tan, he presents his musical visions as he says, “I wanted to find a chemistry between the players that made me feel like we’ve been playing together as a band for years. So the process was longer than usual from my experience and we hit a snag or two along the way.”

As Mañalac goes back to what he’s known for, he’s also back with depth and personal nature of his lyrics, coupled with his cool, smooth voice and brilliantly adept song writing capabilities. Mañalac, who produced and wrote most of the songs, has been in the US for mixing at Hyde Street Studios by Scott Mcdowell and final mastering of the album by Brad Blackwood at Euphonic Masters. He also visited parts of the US like New York City and California to Canada. Mañalac will again continue his US tour this November and will be back in the country to promote his album before the year ends.

Mañalac’s infusion of rock, pop, jazz and bluegrass melodies along with a 12-piece orchestra  to create a collection of hypnotic, genre-bending material shows renewed confidence from musician unafraid to stride beyond industry expectations. “It’s a restart. The whole process from start to finish was different from all the years I’ve been doing this. It was just great to relearn a lot of the stuff and get that joy back again, “Mañalac shared.

ZIA QUIZON releases her mini CD

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Her breezily uplifting blend of pop, soul, jazz and retro R&B is here to sway you away as Polyeast Records proudly announces the release of Zia Quizon self-titled mini-CD album.
Showcasing her talent as one of OPM’s young singer/songwriter could probably go beyond being a daughter of the Comedy King Dolphy and OPM’s Divine Diva ZsaZsa Padilla because Zia is here to prove that she’s is a breath of fresh air in her debut album.
Featuring her positioning single “Simple Girl” is notably one of her masterpieces since she started learning her craft. Zia said “I draw inspiration from everyday experiences or a particularly strong feeling that I have at the moment. I believe that songs become more meaningful when you’re feeling emotional and in a way come from a very real place. And when you finally finish a song, the most fulfilling feeling about the whole process when you take a step back and think, ‘That pretty much sums up how I felt at the time.’” She wrote the song “Simple Girl” and obviously mirrors a young simple girl she really is. The album’s first single is now being heard on the radio and will soon be accompanied by a music video.
This memorable six-track release full of feel good music includes three original composition and three revivals. Borrowing a song which led her mom, ZsaZsa Padilla, to the height of her career in the 80s, “Mambobola” is one of the album’s highlights. Zia said, “We were throwing some ideas around and I think I actually suggested the song myself. I felt that it would be very nice to have one of my mom’s songs on the album as a kind of tribute to her for all of the things she has done for me.”
Giving credits to her very supportive dad, Dolphy, a contemporary classic piece “Smile,” becomes a more-than-promising start for the young artist reviving Michael Jackson’s version. Sharing her musical influences, Zia said “Aside from my mom, I would say that my dad’s taste in music really shaped mine. He influenced me to appreciate the classics—from standards to classical to world Music and even oldies.”
Another remake in the album is the track “So Much In Love” which was originally by Sheena Easton brings out Zia’s melodic sensibilities mixing with much jazz with her carefree spirit.
Tapping into elements of soul, jazz and pop, Zia beautifully shapes these songs to become her step toward something – Zia’s simplicity and her artistic breakthrough — that has its own considerable rewards. Original compositions also include the perky “Dear Lonely” written by Kiko Salazar introducing different instrumental elements along the way. “Ako Na Lang”, on the other hand, is an original composition and produced by Mr. Jungee Marcelo. “I’m proud to say that all the songs in the album were arranged to my style of singing. My producers made sure I was comfortable with singing the songs in the album,” Zia added.
She also explains, “I think that each song has its own character—kind of like that different sides to me. So, each song gives you a different feel without losing the general flow of the album.” Zia really is a gifted singer whose soulful singing and beautiful personality shine through on this release. In this album, Zia showed herself to be capable as an artist and a creative songwriter as well. “I tried to put as much of my personality in the song choice and the music as I could. So it isn’t just an album to me, it’s a piece of me that I am offering to anyone who will listen. The album may not be different, but hopefully I am.”
Zia’s self-titled debut album is now available in stores near you released by Polyeast Records. To get to know more about Zia, please visit her website http://www.ziaquizon.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/ZQUIZON.

Anyone who has followed Nievera’s musical career has seen a man that has always been able to sing from his heart and express himself creatively through his music. Other remakes includes an exceptional ballad in Nievera’s version of “Narito” of Gary Valenciano; break-up OPM song of Rachel Alejandro in Nievera’s remake of “Paalam Na”; Nievera’s own interpretation of Ariel Rivera’s hit in the 90s in the song “Ayoko Na Sana” and rendering a soulful a Freestyle hit “Before I Let You Go.” Another highlight in the album is an English adaptation of another OPM feel-good music “Umagang Kay Ganda” in Nievera’s version called “Beautiful Morning”

For over 29 years, Martin Nievera has consistently and powerfully made his mark on the music industry and have never failed keeping OPM stay alive even up to now.
