R&B Princess KYLA is back with PRIVATE AFFAIR featuring the first single “MAHAL KITA (Di Mo Pansin)”

New CD out now released by Polyeast Records!

Hugely successful R&B Princess KYLA is set to close 2010 with a bang. Multi-platinum R&B star KYLA returns with her highly-anticipated eight album, PRIVATE AFFAIR under Polyeast Records and showcases her to be a definitive R&B/soul singer to emerge in this decade.

This 12-track album shows Kyla’s growth as a singer, songwriter, producer, and as a performer. Kyla says “PRIVATE AFFAIR’s sound easily reflects where I took my inspiration—back to the basics: old school R&B, jazz and pop.” The album’s lead-off single, MAHAL KITA (DI MO PANSIN) has already been dominating a massive airplay in its first two weeks. This single follows a vintage style and features Kyla in a unique throwback to the 1950′s and 1960′s with a music video directed by Treb Monteras.

One of the album’s stand-out is a star-studded production of the smooth, club-ready, R&B single DON’T TIE ME DOWN, which she produced and co-written with her friends and also OPM RnB’s gems: Jay-R, Billy Crawford, Kris Lawarence and Jimmy Muna. “I had an unforgettable experience making this song, aside from doing it with my friends…I also had the chance to work as well as learn with such brilliant artists like them.” Kyla added. Another highlight is the song A SONG FOR THE LOVE IN THE SUMMER which was composed by her Dad for her Mom in 1975. “I’m so proud of this track because this song is so important to my parents. It really amazes me how music truly inspires people and connects individuals with so much love” she shared.

Leaning more on her old-school-esque sensibility, the only remake in this album is her R&B but sultry version of HOW DEEP IS YOU LOVE (recorded by the BeeGees in 1977). Other original tracks include LISTEN; DAGLI NA LANG; CAMOUFLAGE; IT’S ALL ABOUT US; KEEP THE FAITH and a bonus House mix version of DON’T TIE ME DOWN.

Recorded in a span of three months, PRIVATE AFFAIR is an R&B album composed mostly of melodic ballads of heartbreak and a few upbeats/midtempos that are added in for good measure.  As the album shows maturity of her vocals and lyrics, it attempts to try some different styles and show a ‘different’ side of her. “With this album, I was given the opportunity to

record new and original compositions again. But we (with Polyeast Records)

all took risks for this album. Listeners nowadays are so much into revivals but this is my way to help brilliant composers, to promote OPM and the whole music industry and of course, to encourage everyone to write more songs” Kyla shared.

Early this year, Kyla bagged a handful of awards/nominations at the MYX Music Awards
in February. She won Favorite Song for Back in Time with Jay-R and Favorite Mellow Video for Old Friend. She was also nominated as Favorite Female Artist; Favorite Collaboration (with Jay-R) and  Favorite Remake for Heart 2 Heart. Wave 89.1 Urban Music Awards also awarded Kyla as Best Collaboration for “Back in Time” with Jay-R. In celebration of her 10 years of prominence in the music industry, PolyEast Records released 27 of the R&B royalty’s biggest hits in a two-CD compilation: Essence of Soul: The Hits Collection along with a new song, “Hanggang Wakas“. “Hanggang Wakas” is Kyla’s collaboration with Malaysian pop/R&B male artist Hazami, who originally wrote the song in Bahasa entitled “Tekad.” The song then adapted in tagalong for Philippine release. Kyla also recorded two songs in Bahasa with Noryn Aziz called “Teman,” an adaptation of Kyla’s hit “Hanggang Ngayon” and another song with Hazami with “Cinta Kita,” a Bahasa version of a Rivermaya origal “Hinahanap-hanap Kita.” Both songs were released digitally in Malaysia.

Kyla came out in 2001 with a slew of other promising female R&B acts, and have released her debut album WAY TO YOUR HEART. 10 years after, the RnB Princss is back with more confidence and her amazingly unparalleled vocal gifts. Besides the release of her new album in the country, Kyla is gearing up for the Asian release of PRIVATE AFFAIR.

PRIVATE AFFAIR is now available in the market released by Polyeast Records and also brought us by Mossimo, Salsa Jeans Fits My Life, Discovery Suites and Skechers.

Kyla – Essence of Soul

May 31st, 2011

Celebrating a 10-year-old career of a 28-year-old R&B royalty,  compiled and re-released, brings together 28 of Kyla’s biggest hits under one cover. On the strength of her eight albums after being launched in 2001, Kyla became one of the top-selling R&B artists of our generation which dominates her sleek, sexy urban sound including “Hanggang Ngayon”, “Nasaan Ka Na”, “Back In Time”, “Beautiful Days”, “I Feel For You”, “Not Your Ordinary Girl,” and a lot more. Polyeast Records proudly announces the release of ESSENCE OF SOUL: The Hits Collection and now available nationwide.

Kyla, after eight amazing albums in a row, releases a 2-CD collection with singles that made her a voice of a generation. Featuring her latest offering “Hanggang Wakas,” is a duet with Hazami of Malaysia. This song was originally written and recorded in Bahasa with the title “Tekad” which means Determined. Our very own Arnie Mendaros translated the song in Tagalog and later on recorded by our R&B princess to share it to her fans.

Bursting onto the scene with the innocent and instantly infectious “Hanggang Ngayon” from her debut album “Way to Your Heart” issued in 2001. This hits collection includes all the hits from the remake of the Keith Martin’s “Because Of You” to Phylis Hyman’s “Old Friend” to soulful Michael Jackson’s “One Day In Your Life”. The R&B ballads are ever-present with “I’ll Be Over You”, “If The Feeling Is Gone” and “It’s Over Now.” Over the course of her career, Kyla bagged a handful of awards, worked with many of OPM writers and producers, and even topped the charts with other smash hit singles “Love Will Lead You Back” which was originally popularized by Taylor Dane in the 90s, and another Michael Jackson remake “Human Nature”.

What this retrospective shows is that over the last 10 years, she has used her warm voice with subtlety and to excellent effect. Kyla has always created music for the

people. Great melodies, simple lyrics and groovy sounds are all part of what makes Kyla still a star. This album is a record to listen to and a record of our times and for this generation—that in our midst, Kyla became one of the few who made it for a decade and more decades to come.

Currently, Kyla is back in the studio for her eagerly-anticipated an all-original album slated this third quarter of 2010. Kyla signed with EMI Philippines/Polyeast Records in 2001 and has already released eight award-winning albums since then. Recently, Kyla received nominations at 2010 MYX Music Awards including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Mellow Video for “Old Friend”, Favorite Collaboration and Favorite Song for “Back in Time” with Jay-R; and Favorite Remake for the album Heart 2 Heart. Kyla is a regular performer/host of GMA’s Sunday variety show Party Pilipinas.
